EDIBLE COMMUNITIES’
2008 EDDY AWARDS HONOR
EXCELLENCE IN MEMBER PUBLICATION
Edible Jersey Receives Two Top Awards for Excellence

March 2008: Edible Jersey won two of the top awards presented at the recent publishers’ meeting of the 50 Edible Communities’ local-foods magazines from across the U.S. and Canada. Held in Charleston, South Carolina, the annual meeting provides Publishers the opportunity to exchange information and ideas, and to honor excellence within their publications with the EDDY Awards. Judged by a panel of outside experts from the food and publishing worlds, the awards recognize the year’s outstanding writing, photography, and marketing ideas.

Edible Jersey, which debuted last Summer, took home two of the top honors. The magazine’s Jersey Fresh campaign won for Best Advertisement of 2008. The campaign, created by CMD & Partners of Fairfield, New Jersey for the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, promotes Garden State produce and seafood.

“Chorizo, Clams, and Transition” an article that ran in the magazine’s Winter 2007 issue, tied for Best Editorial – Feature Length of 2008. The story, a food lover’s tour of Newark’s Ironbound district, was written by Megan Wetherall and photographed by Julie Pryma.

“For a magazine to win these two top awards within its first year of publishing is truly a remarkable achievement,” said publisher and editor Nancy Brannigan Painter. “A magazine is only as good as its content and Edible Jersey has been very fortunate to have an incredibly talented group of contributors and a stellar group of smart, creative advertising supporters.” Published quarterly, Edible Jersey celebrates the local, seasonal food of the Garden State.

“The week in January when all the entries come in is one of the best times of the year for us,” said Tracey Ryder, Edible Communities president and co-founder, of the awards competition. “We are awed and humbled by the creativity of this group. We know the message of building communities through food is being well-served by this incredible group of publishers.”
