2017 GUIDE TO COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA)

csa2016Community supported agriculture (CSA) has grown in popularity across the Garden State due to the model’s inherent benefits for both farms and customers. In the CSA partnership, customers purchase an annual full or half “share” from a farm in advance of the growing season and then enjoy weekly or bi-weekly boxes of fresh-from-the-field food at harvest time. This upfront funding helps sustain farm operations throughout the year, even during the slower winter period. As “shareholders”, members share in the inherent risk as well as the rewards of a farm’s seasonal bounty. Share boxes are often picked up at the farm in season, but many CSAs also offer other convenient pick-up locations, such as at shops and restaurants, in various communities.

Following is a brief list of farms offering CSA programs. Many are now accepting members for the 2016 growing season. We encourage you to contact them for more information and complete details.Visit ediblejersey.com’s “Resources” for updates. —N. Painter
